Job summary

Atomic Weapons Establishment invites applicants to join its Logistics Year in Industry Programme at Aldermaston. The one-year placement starts 2 August 2027 and includes a 9-day working fortnight with a total annual leave package of 270 hours.

You will work on systems, planning and logistics supporting the Defence Nuclear Organisation within MoD. This programme offers hands-on experience, exposure to material control, warehousing, stock management and transport, with potential graduate

Qualifications

• Pursuing an Engineering or Science-based degree with keen interest in systems, logistics, process and planning.
• Provide evidence of a minimum 2:2 degree classification by August 2027.
• Be available to join AWE in August 2027.
• Role is predominantly site-based at Aldermaston.

Responsibilities

• Act as a Material Control interface and logistics liaison with customers and suppliers across logistics and material management activities.
• Support goods receipt, warehousing, distribution, stock management and material control.
• Gain exposure to inventory management, warehousing, transport, process improvement and stakeholder engagement.
• Help ensure through-life plans for material and components are enacted and stock replenishment mechanisms are maintained.
• Support management of company vehicles and fleet responsibilities, including the Transport Liaison Officer role.
• Support the disposition process through sentencing, following formal processes and maintaining records.
• A full UK driving licence would be beneficial.

What to Expect on the Programme

Operations supports AWE's mission by taking demand from customer programmes and delivering the products and services needed by the Defence Nuclear Organisation within the Ministry of Defence to maintain national security. You will step into one of the UK's most critical and technically advanced organisations while learning how health, safety and regulation sit at the heart of everything we do. This role sits within the Non‑Nuclear Operations and Transport Group. The group provides policy, standards, competency and processes supporting the accountancy and control of components and other special materials. It manages Logistics and Material programme deliverables and ensures cycle‑count activities are initiated in line with the audit plan.

• Act as a Material Control interface and logistics liaison with customers and suppliers across logistics and material management activities.
• Support goods receipt, warehousing, distribution, stock management and material control, gaining practical experience across Logistics and Transport.
• Gain exposure to inventory management, warehousing, transport, process improvement and stakeholder engagement.
• Help ensure through‑life plans for material and components are enacted and stock replenishment mechanisms are maintained.
• Support business areas with knowledge, available systems and subject‑matter expertise to identify components.
• Support management of company vehicles and fleet responsibilities, including the Transport Liaison Officer role, vehicle refuelling point and POL station monitoring and fuel usage where applicable.
• Support the disposition process through sentencing, following formal processes and maintaining accurate corporate‑system records as items are dispatched for disposal.
• A full UK driving licence would be beneficial for those working in the Non‑Nuclear Operations and Transport Group.

Security Requirements

• Must be a UK national holding a UK passport to be eligible to apply to AWE.
• Must have lived in the UK for 10 years to apply for Developed Vetting (DV) clearance for this role.
