As one of the UK's leading manufacturers of plastic piping systems, our products help build homes, communities, and infrastructure that stand the test of time. We combine science, engineering, and creativity to make a real difference – and now we want you to be part of that journey.

The Opportunity

We're looking for a curious, hands‑on Chemical/Process Engineering student to join our team for a year in industry. This isn't about making tea or shadowing in silence – you'll be in the thick of it, helping us design, test, and improve the processes that keep our manufacturing sites running efficiently and sustainably.

You will actively contribute to the optimisation and advancement of extrusion processes within a dynamic manufacturing environment. This role focuses on performing CAPEX evaluations, including the identification and development of capital projects that enhance operational efficiency, product quality, and sustainability. Additionally, the role holder will engage in continuous improvement initiatives across the business.

Responsibilities and Key Tasks
  • Analyse and improve extrusion processes to enhance efficiency and product quality.
  • Conduct CAPEX evaluations to prioritise projects for machinery and process improvements.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives through methodologies like Lean or Six Sigma, focusing on waste reduction and productivity.
  • Collaborate with the engineering, production, and quality assurance teams to achieve project goals.
  • Research and implement innovative extrusion technologies and use data analysis for decision-making.
  • Assist in project management to ensure timely delivery of machinery upgrades and enhancements.
  • Engage in hands‑on work to apply chemical engineering concepts in a manufacturing setting.
  • Implement sustainable practices and evaluate environmental impacts of processes.
  • Maintain documentation and prepare reports to communicate findings and recommendations to stakeholders.
What We're Looking For
  • Studying Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, or a related field.
  • Curious, analytical, and skilled at spotting patterns in data.
  • A team player who enjoys problem‑solving (and doesn't mind getting hands‑on).
  • Eager to learn, improve, and make an impact.
What's in it for you
  • A year of real engineering experience in a major UK manufacturer.
  • Mentorship from experienced professionals who want you to succeed.
  • A chance to see your ideas come to life on the factory floor.
  • A solid boost to your CV.
  • A welcoming, down‑to‑earth team.

  • Apply by using the Apply Now button at the bottom of this page.
  • The Resourcing Team will request a short 2‑minute video submission: “What do you think makes a great engineer, and how do you see yourself developing those qualities during your placement year?”
  • Face‑to‑face interview – a one‑on‑one conversation to dive deeper and give you a real‑life view of the business, helping you gauge if we align with your vision for your placement.
