Job summary

Balfour Primary School is seeking an enthusiastic, skilled and nurturing Year 1 Class Teacher on a temporary maternity cover contract. The role is full-time with start date in November 2026 and a contract end date aligned with the maternity leave period. The salary ranges from £32,916 to £51,048 depending on experience, with fixed hours and a 32.4-hour week.

The school values high-quality teaching, inclusive practice and whole-child development, and uses Read Write Inc. phonics.

Qualifications

• Qualified teacher with UK status (evidence in job description).
• Experience in Year 1/KS1 and maternity cover is desirable.
• Experience with Read Write Inc. (RWI) phonics is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Be an excellent classroom practitioner with high expectations for all children.
• Have a strong understanding of early reading, phonics and effective KS1 practice.
• Be committed to a child-centred approach and to inclusion for every learner.
• Build positive relationships with children, families and colleagues.
