Job summary

Galliford Try is seeking a Yard Operative to support the safe and efficient running of our workshop and yard facilities in Keighley, West Yorkshire. You will load/unload materials, manage stock, and assist fabrications while ensuring safety and quality standards are met.

Ideal candidates have fabrication workshop experience, hold a CSCS card, and can operate common workshop tools. This full-time role requires teamwork, manual labor, and strong attention to safety.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in fabrication or a similar workshop-based environment.
  • Valid CSCS card and understanding of site health and safety procedures.
  • Ability to operate workshop tools and machinery and handle materials safely.

Responsibilities

  • Control plant movements with Yard.
  • Load and unload materials from deliveries, store securely.
  • Perform general housekeeping within the premises.
  • Conduct stock taking and inventory checks for project materials.
  • Cut, drill, and finish materials per project requirements.
  • Prepare materials for fabrication or assembly and chase material orders.
  • Support workshop and site teams with labour tasks.
  • Assist with workshop fabrication tasks and tool handling.
  • Attend site to assist with steelwork installation as needed.
  • Ensure all work aligns with health and safety guidelines.

Location: Keighley, West Yorkshire

We are looking for a Yard Operative to support the safe and efficient running of our workshop and yard facilities. In this role, you will be responsible for various tasks, including loading and unloading materials, stock taking, and assisting in fabrication work, ensuring that all work meets safety and quality standards.

What you'll be doing:
  • Control plant movements with Yard
  • Loading and unloading materials from deliveries, ensuring they are stored correctly and securely.
  • General housekeeping duties within the premises
  • Conducting stock taking and recording inventory to ensure materials are available for ongoing projects.
  • Drilling, cutting, and dressing materials as per project requirements.
  • Material chasing, ensuring materials are properly prepared for fabrication or assembly.
  • Carrying out general labour duties to support the workshop and site teams.
  • Assisting with workshop-based fabrication tasks, including handling materials and tools.
  • Attending site to assist site teams with the installation of steelwork as required.
  • Ensuring all work is carried out in line with health and safety guidelines and industry standards.
About you:
  • Proven experience in fabrication or a similar workshop-based environment.
  • Valid CSCS (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) card.
  • Strong understanding of health and safety procedures on construction sites and in workshops.
  • Ability to use a range of workshop tools and machinery, including drills & cutting equipment.
  • Excellent organizational skills for stock taking and material handling.
  • Physically fit and able to perform manual labour tasks.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team.
