Job summary

LBS Builders Merchants Ltd in Pengam (Wales) is seeking a proactive Yard Assistant to join our busy yard. You will assist customers, manage stock, and help with loading deliveries in a hands-on role.

You should be physically fit, enjoy outdoor work, and have a friendly, customer-focused approach. Forklift licence is desirable and training can be provided. Hours roughly 40.75 per week, with some Saturday mornings.

Qualifications

• Previous yard/warehouse experience preferred.
• Friendly, proactive attitude and good customer service.
• Physically fit and able to work outdoors in all weathers.
• Team player who can also use initiative; forklift licence desirable or willing to train.
• Good attention to detail and commitment to safety.

Responsibilities

• Serve customers in the yard and assist with loading vehicles.
• Pick and prepare orders for delivery or collection.
• Load/unload company and supplier vehicles safely and accurately.
• Check materials for quality, quantity and damage.
• Monitor stock levels and layout; assist with stock takes.
• Report accidents, damages or security issues.
• Operate forklift trucks following training/certification.

Yard Assistant

Location: Pengam

We’re looking for a proactive and hard-working Yard Assistant to join our friendly team at Branch. This is a hands‑on, customer‑facing role where no two days are the same — ideal for someone who enjoys working outdoors, supporting customers, and being part of a busy team.

What You’ll Be Doing:

As a Yard Assistant, you'll be responsible for providing excellent service to customers, maintaining stock accuracy and presentation, and supporting with loading/unloading deliveries. You’ll also help keep the yard tidy, safe, and well‑organised, ensuring our operations run smoothly and efficiently.

• Serving customers in the yard and assisting with loading their vehicles.
• Picking and preparing orders for delivery or collection.
• Loading/unloading company and supplier vehicles safely and accurately.
• Checking materials for quality, quantity, and damage.
• Monitoring and maintaining stock levels and layout.
• Supporting with regular stock takes and housekeeping duties.
• Reporting any accidents, damages, or security issues.
• Operating forklift trucks (following appropriate training/certification).
• Ensuring high health & safety standards are maintained across the site.

What We’re Looking For:

• Previous experience in a similar yard or warehouse role (preferred).
• A helpful, positive attitude and strong customer service skills.
• Physically fit and comfortable working outdoors in all weather.
• A team player who can also use initiative when needed.
• Forklift licence (desirable, or willingness to train).
• Good attention to detail and a commitment to safety.

Hours of work: An average of 40.75 hours per week, Monday to Friday between 7.30am – 4.30pm, plus every other Saturday morning from 8.00am until 12.00pm.
