We are excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Workshop Supervisor to join our Plant Operations Division at our Glasgow Depot (G51 3RN). This role is perfect for an experienced Plant Fitter who can take charge of daily workshop operations, lead a team, and ensure that all repairs, maintenance, and servicing of plant machinery are completed to the highest standards.

As our Workshop Supervisor, you will be crucial in maintaining the reliability and safety of our hire fleet. By overseeing the daily operations of the workshop, you’ll ensure that all tasks are carried out efficiently, safely, and on time. Your work will directly contribute to Jarvie Plant's reputation for providing dependable, high-quality hire solutions and supporting customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the day‑to‑day operations of the workshop, ensuring tasks are prioritised, completed safely, and to the highest quality standards.
- Supervise and allocate tasks to a team of fitters, apprentices, and workshop staff, ensuring high standards of performance and safety are maintained at all times.
- Ensure the workshop team operates cohesively, fostering a collaborative and productive environment.
- Mentor and guide apprentices, providing training and technical support to help develop their skills.
- Take the lead in performing complex repairs, diagnostics, and maintenance on a wide variety of plant machinery, including engines, hydraulic systems, and electrical components.
- Ensure all machinery and equipment is well‑maintained, ready for hire, and compliant with safety and operational standards.
- Proactively address any potential issues to prevent downtime, ensuring all work is completed to specification and on time.
- Oversee inventory levels, ensuring necessary parts and tools are readily available to avoid delays in repairs and maintenance.
- Utilise IT systems (e.g., InspHire) to track job progress, manage stock, and schedule maintenance work.
- Work closely with the internal team to maintain efficient operations and support the smooth flow of work across departments.
- Communicate effectively with customers and stakeholders to ensure repair and maintenance work is completed promptly and to their satisfaction.
- Ensure all workshop activities are carried out in line with industry safety standards and legal requirements.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organised workshop environment, ensuring all staff adhere to safety protocols and minimise risk.
What Will Make You a Great Fit
- Proven experience as a Plant Fitter and/or Workshop Supervisor, with extensive hands‑on experience in plant machinery maintenance, repair, and servicing.
- Technical expertise with advanced diagnostic and troubleshooting skills with the ability to carry out complex repairs, such as major machinery overhauls and engine repairs, ensuring all work meets high standards.
- Strong track record of effectively leading a team, ensuring that work is completed safely, efficiently, and on time.
- In‑depth knowledge of health and safety regulations, with a focus on maintaining a safe working environment and enforcing safety protocols in the workshop.
- Excellent at prioritising tasks, allocating resources, and monitoring team performance to ensure efficient workflow and on‑time completion of repairs and maintenance.
- Ability to proactively identify and address potential issues before they affect operations, resolving any challenges swiftly to minimise downtime.
- High standards of quality, ensuring that all work meets legal, safety, and company requirements, with a focus on precision and accuracy in repairs and maintenance.
- Strong communication skills for liaising effectively with team members, management, and external stakeholders, ensuring smooth operations and clear reporting.
- Familiarity with workshop management systems (e.g., InspHire or similar) and a good understanding of basic office software (e.g., Outlook) to track progress, inventory, and maintenance schedules.
- A technical qualification in mechanical or plant engineering (SVQ Level 2/3 or equivalent).
- Additional certifications, such as a CSCS card, would be a bonus.
