PRODUCTION MANAGER / WORKSHOP MANAGER

We are recruiting for an experienced Workshop Manager to work for our client who are based in Elland, West Yorkshire.

THE ROLE

To oversee daily workshop operations, ensure efficient production, and maintain high-quality output. The role combines hands‑on leadership with responsibility for quoting, customer liaison, and production planning.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Manage and coordinate all workshop activities to meet production schedules and customer deadlines.
  • Supervise a small team of machinists, providing technical guidance and ensuring adherence to safety and quality standards.
  • Plan workloads, allocate resources, and monitor job progress.
  • Prepare accurate quotations based on customer drawings and specifications.
  • Follow up customer enquiries and quotations to convert opportunities into orders.
  • Ensure workshop equipment is properly maintained and calibrated.
  • Drive continuous improvement in productivity, efficiency, and quality.
  • Liaise with customers and internal teams on technical, quality, and delivery matters.
ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCES & SKILLS
  • 5-10 years' experience in precision engineering or CNC machining, including supervisory or managerial responsibilities.
  • Strong understanding of CNC and manual machining processes, materials, and tolerances.
  • Proven experience preparing quotations and estimating machining times and costs.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
  • Good IT skills, including MS Office and ideally MRP/ERP systems.
  • Excellent leadership, organisational, and communication skills.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
  • HNC/HND or equivalent in Mechanical / Manufacturing Engineering.
  • Knowledge of CAD/CAM and ISO 9001 quality systems.
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing or continuous improvement techniques.

PAY

You will earn an annual salary of 35k-45k per hour depending on experience.
