Job summary

Select Recruitment is seeking a practical Workshop Operative to join a busy engineering and manufacturing site in Norwich. The role involves constructing and assembling products using hand and power tools, reading simple drawings, and maintaining quality in a fast-paced environment.

Working Monday to Friday, 08:30–17:00, you will be part of a supportive workshop team with opportunities to develop your skills, gain hands-on experience, and progress within a long-established business.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in mechanical assembly, engineering or a manufacturing environment.
• Hands-on approach with a genuine interest in engineering.
• Comfortable using hand tools and power tools.
• Ability to understand basic engineering drawings and instructions.
• Good attention to detail and a commitment to producing quality work.
• Reliable, organised and able to work well as part of a team.
• Formal engineering qualifications or an NVQ in Mechanical Manufacturing would be beneficial but are not essential for the right candidate.

Responsibilities

• Assembling and constructing products and components using hand and power tools.
• Fabricating and fitting smaller sub‑assemblies ready for final production.
• Reading and following basic engineering drawings, instructions and specifications.
• Using workshop tools and equipment safely and effectively.
• Checking finished products to ensure they meet quality standards.
• Identifying and reporting any damaged or defective materials or products.
• Working alongside other workshop colleagues to meet production deadlines.
• Maintaining a clean, tidy and safe working environment.

Workshop Operative – Engineering Assembly

Location: Norwich, NR6
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 08:30 – 17:00
Pay Rate: £13.36 per hour (depending on experience)

About the Role

Select Recruitment is currently looking for a practical and hands‑on Workshop Operative to join a busy and established engineering and manufacturing business based in Norwich.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with an interest in engineering, mechanical assembly or manufacturing who enjoys working with their hands and taking pride in producing high‑quality products.

You will be working as part of a friendly workshop team, assisting with the construction, fabrication and assembly of specialist products using a variety of hand and power tools.
