Job summary

Salt Separation Services is seeking a Workshop Engineer (Fitting) to join our Rochdale workshop. The role focuses on mechanical fitting, assembly and light fabrication for RO plant systems, with training provided for plant equipment and testing procedures, prioritising safety and accuracy.

You will work alongside engineers and apprentices in a hands-on environment, contributing to equipment testing, calibration and refurbishment, while supporting our customers and meeting project timelines.

Qualifications

• Minimum Level 3 BTEC/NVQ or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering.
• 4+ years of experience in a workshop or shop‑floor engineering role.
• Strong communication and time management skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Customer‑oriented mindset with high quality engineering outputs.
• Familiarity with using computer systems to log time and work.
• Commitment to self‑development and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

• Assemble and build water treatment plants (training provided).
• Perform mechanical fitting, pipefitting, and light fabrication.
• Carry out instrumentation tasks, wiring, and painting as needed.
• Conduct equipment testing, including instrument calibration and hydrostatic testing (training provided).
• Oversee inspection, refurbishment, and overhaul of plant equipment.
• Inspect incoming equipment and materials.
• Support logistics through collection and delivery of goods, and packing and dispatching of equipment.
• Maintain and promote the company’s values and culture in all aspects of work.
• Lead site teams during offsite work, where applicable.
• Contribute to the professional development of apprentices or junior staff.
• Carry out any other tasks required to support the needs of the business.

Position Summary

Join a dynamic engineering team at the forefront of water treatment technology. As a Workshop Engineer, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality engineering services in support of both new and existing RO plant systems and equipment. This hands‑on position is ideal for someone with a strong mechanical engineering background, a commitment to quality, and a desire to contribute to a growing company focused on sustainable water solutions. You will be working in the workshop alongside other skilled engineers and apprentices.

Key Responsibilities

• Assemble and build water treatment plants (training provided).
• Perform mechanical fitting, pipefitting, and light fabrication.
• Carry out instrumentation tasks, wiring, and painting as needed.
• Conduct equipment testing, including instrument calibration, hydrostatic pressure testing, PSV setting, and certification (training provided).
• Oversee inspection, refurbishment, and overhaul of plant equipment.
• Inspect incoming equipment and materials.
• Support logistics through collection and delivery of goods, and packing and dispatching of equipment.
• Maintain and promote the company’s values and culture in all aspects of work.
• Lead site teams during offsite work, where applicable.
• Contribute to the professional development of apprentices or junior staff (as required)
• Carry out any other tasks required to support the needs of the business.
