Job summary

VolkerWessels is seeking an experienced Senior Works Manager for a prestigious Southsea Coastal Defence project in Portsmouth. You will lead site teams of foremen, supervisors and subcontractors to deliver civil works safely, on programme and to the highest quality standards.

You will champion safety and quality initiatives, manage stakeholder relationships, and contribute to planning, risk management and cost control while maintaining a strong focus on division objectives and customer

Qualifications

Minimum 10 years' experience in a supervisory or construction management role.
CSCS Site Manager qualification.
SMSTS qualification.
First Aid qualification.
Proven experience delivering civil engineering or infrastructure projects.
Strong leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills.
Experience within coastal, marine, flood defence or major infrastructure projects.
Confined Spaces certification.
Temporary Works Appreciation.
Lifting Appointed Person qualification.

Plan and coordinate labour, plant, materials and subcontract resources.
Lead, mentor and develop Foremen, Supervisors and site teams.
Drive workforce engagement, wellbeing and performance.

Build strong relationships with clients, residents, stakeholders and supply chain partners.
Manage subcontractor performance against safety, quality and programme requirements.

Job description

Reporting to the Project Manager, you will be responsible for the safe, environmentally compliant and right-first-time delivery of construction activities across the project. You'll lead teams of Foremen, Supervisors, operatives and subcontractors, ensuring works are delivered safely, on programme and to the quality standards expected on one of the UK's leading coastal defence schemes. You'll also be a key interface with the client, stakeholders, supply chain partners and local community, helping maintain the strong reputation of both the project and VolkerStevin., Project Delivery & Leadership

Champion VolkerStevin's Safety Ripple and Quality Ripple initiatives.
Ensure compliance with all health, safety, environmental and quality standards.
Promote a positive safety culture and ensure incidents are reported and investigated appropriately.
Lead site inductions, briefings, toolbox talks and workforce communications.
Ensure actions arising from inspections and audits are closed out effectively.

Stakeholder & Supply Chain Management

Build strong relationships with clients, residents, stakeholders and supply chain partners.
Manage subcontractor performance against safety, quality and programme requirements.
Support risk management through planning meetings, design reviews and early engagement.
Monitor project performance and drive continuous improvement across safety, quality, programme and cost.

Commercial & Operational Support

Support Project Managers with resource planning, forecasting and reporting.
Contribute to programme delivery and cost control.
Ensure sufficient supervision and competent resources are available across all work areas. Minimum 10 years' experience in a supervisory or construction management role.
