Description

Are you an experienced polymer manufacturing professional looking for a new challenge?

Department: Learning

Location: Remote

Compensation: £35,000 - £40,000 / year

Are you an experienced polymer manufacturing professional looking for a new challenge? Do you want to pass on your knowledge and skills to the next generation of technicians, operators, and engineers? Are you ready to join a pacey, progressive organisation that’s all about its people? If you’re ready to move from manufacturing operations into a role that truly leverages your industry expertise, empowers others, and leaves a legacy in the materials and plastics industry — we’d love to hear from you.

We’re Tiro, a leading provider of science and technology apprenticeships. We’ve got big ambitions and we’re looking for a Coach to join our team to support learners through their Level 3 Polymer Processing Technician apprenticeship.

We’d love to hear from people who’ve worked in polymer manufacturing, including extrusion, injection moulding, blow moulding, or compounding, and who have experience across the full production lifecycle, from plant start-up and process optimisation through to maintenance and shutdown.

We’ve been helping hungry apprentices join ambitious businesses since 2005. At Tiro, we believe that great apprenticeships help everyone, because there are remarkable apprentices out there just waiting to be found, and fantastic employment opportunities waiting to be filled. Our work is never just about filling vacancies. It’s about changing the world. We’re helping to find people who are driving innovation in sustainable materials, improving the efficiency of UK manufacturing, and shaping the technologies of the future. And we’re proud to be playing our part.

The Role

In this role, you’ll be helping to develop the next generation of Polymer Processing Technicians, supporting apprentices who will be the backbone of tomorrow’s manufacturing industry.

You’ll tenaciously drive your learners’ progress, keeping them on track to complete their training programme. Combining your industry expertise and technical knowledge of polymer materials and processing, with your coaching and mentoring skills, you’ll help learners embed their workplace experiences and build confidence operating real-world manufacturing equipment.

The apprenticeship programme you’ll deliver covers a broad range of modules, including:

  • Health & Safety in a processing environment
  • Polymer science and materials understanding
  • Process operations and maintenance (start-up to shutdown, calibration, and optimisation)
  • Quality procedures and compliance
  • Problem-solving and continuous improvement
  • Environmental management and sustainability

You’ll visit apprentices in their workplaces, from high-volume plastics production lines to specialist polymer facilities, supporting them to apply learning in real operational contexts.

You’ll be a strong relationship builder, working closely with learners, employers, and workplace mentors to ensure every apprentice gets the support they need to succeed.

About You

We’re not interested in a tick-box list of qualifications. We’re looking for someone who brings the right attitude, aptitude, and credibility.

You’ve likely spent years in manufacturing or polymer processing. You might have worked as a Polymer Technician, Process Engineer, Production Supervisor, or Maintenance Specialist. Now, you’re ready to pass your experience on — to shape and mentor apprentices who will go into polymer manufacturing, ensuring they learn on the job, are confident in real-world operations, and adopt your industry discipline and rigour.

You’ll be happiest when you’re out on site, in factories, workshops, and production facilities, seeing your learners grow in skill and confidence under your guidance.

You’ll:

  • Have extensive experience in polymer processing, plastics production, injection/blow moulding, extrusion, or similar.
  • Be confident discussing process control, materials behaviour, equipment calibration, and production efficiency.
  • Enjoy working independently, managing your own schedule, and building relationships across diverse workplaces.
  • Thrive on seeing others succeed, finding satisfaction in those ‘lightbulb moments’ when your coaching clicks.
  • Be a self-starter who loves collaboration, thrives in a pacey environment, and embraces challenges head‑on.

You’ll bring technical credibility, empathy, and enthusiasm — helping apprentices turn theory into practice and develop into confident, capable technicians.

Safeguarding

This role involves contact with learners aged 16 and over. Tiro is committed to the safeguarding and well‑being of all our learners, staff, and customers. We fully recognise our responsibilities for protecting vulnerable groups. It is our policy to promote the safety, health, and well‑being of everyone we work with. Safeguarding checks will be undertaken as part of your application, and if successful, you’ll be required to complete a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check for the position.

The Package

We LOVE people — the apprentices brimming with potential, the business leaders hungry for talent, and our brilliant team who make it all happen.

At Tiro, we’ll look after you because we’re nothing without our people. We’ll never take you for granted, and we’ll make sure work is rewarding, challenging, and fun. In turn, we’ll ask you to treat our clients and apprentices the same way — helping people get their big break and enabling businesses to grow.

You’ll receive:

  • Starting salary: £35,000 to £40,000 per annum (depending on experience)
  • Holidays: 28 days annual leave plus bank holidays
  • Flexible working: Choose your own hours (37.5 per week)
  • Remote working: With travel expenses covered
  • Pension: 5% employee / 3% employer contribution
  • Perks: Staff events, away days, and regular CPD opportunities
  • Progression: Fantastic opportunities to grow with us
