Job description

This is a full time, fixed term contract position for 15 months that is available due to Work Well funding.

The Work, Health and Skills Team in Economic Affairs have a vacancy in the team for a Work and Skills Adviser to support the work, health and skills agenda.

Supporting the economy and our residents during this unprecedented time is more crucial than ever and never has the co-dependency of work and health been more apparent. Due to the success of one of our projects, we are in a position to recruit an additional member of the team to support our residents with health conditions return to and stay in work.

This post is part of a NHS Vanguard pilot, Work Well, the project will build on the success of our single access point and our Facebook group Get Rochdale Working , supporting employed residents who have a health condition or disability or those recently unemployed, by offering advice about the most appropriate options and understanding the barriers people face. This role involves coaching and motivating residents to succeed in achieving their goals or accessing alternative provision if required. This role will involve having a caseload of residents, supporting them through a personalised action plan in order to achieve their potential.

The successful applicant will be part of the Get Rochdale Working team, utilise social media to liaise with residents, attend events and have a good understanding of the work and skills offer across the Rochdale Borough so that they can guide residents to the right support at the right time. The team also work closely and receive referrals from a wide range of partners including; council staff, police, social housing providers, NHS, public health, social care and drug and alcohol professionals to help people to change their behaviours and improve their lives. This requires an empathetic approach and an ability to identify someone’s potential, encourage them to build on their skills and raise their aspirations.

This post will require someone with excellent communication, digital and organisational skills in order to manage a caseload and reach their KPI’s, whilst maintaining an excellent level of support, keeping the resident’s goals at the centre of what we do and being flexible in the way we work.

The team, work at both a borough wide and at neighbourhood levels, coordinating the work and skills offer and embedding it in the wider offer of the council and our partners, engaging with businesses and making sure residents benefit from these opportunities and appropriate support is available for some of the most marginalised people in our communities.

Rochdale Council is a Cooperative Council, which involves changes in how it delivers its services involving residents more in the decision making process and working, thinking and acting more co-operatively as a council and borough for, ultimately, the benefit of the people and the place. This will be more important than ever going forward with more partnership opportunities being developed to help improve the lives of our residents.

Please note that this role will require some travel to various location across the Rochdale Borough. Some evening and weekend work may required as per the needs of the service.
