Job summary

A primary care network in Plymouth is seeking a Womens Health Enhanced Practice Nurse to lead and expand womens health services. Overview

Drake Medical Alliance Primary Care Network – Womens Health Enhanced Practice Nurse

The closing date is 09 November 2025

The Womens Health Enhanced Practice Nurse will lead and expand womens health services across the DMA, delivering advanced clinical care, education, and leadership in line with the Network Contract DES 2025/26 Section B18.

Responsibilities
  • Increase access to womens health services, including coils, implants, HRT, and cervical screening recall and uptake.
  • Support QOF and IIF performance through improved prevention and early detection.
  • Provide clinical leadership to nursing teams across the DMA for womens health.
  • Work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team (MDT) to enhance the overall general practice offering for womens health.
Main duties of the job

Clinical Practice

  • Deliver advanced womens health services, including:
  • Coil (IUD/IUS) fittings and removals
  • Contraceptive implant fittings and removals
  • Cervical screening (smears)
  • Sexual and reproductive health consultations
  • Undertake complex clinical assessments and develop care plans for womens health needs.
  • Apply enhanced clinical knowledge and evidence-based techniques to manage complex cases.
  • Prescribe medications (if qualified) and advise on hormonal treatments.
  • Work across all DMA practices to provide equitable access to womens health services.
  • Participate in clinical audits and quality improvement (QI) projects related to womens health.
  • Support audit and practice pathways to identify and contact non-responders including lapsed cervical screenings.

Qualifications
  • Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
  • Level 7 postgraduate qualification in an area relevant to enhanced practice (e.g. Womens Health, Advanced Clinical Practice, Public Health, or Long-Term Condition Management).
Experience
  • Proven experience delivering womens health services in primary care or sexual health settings.
  • Fitting/removing coils and implants, or willingness to complete FSRH Letters of Competence.
  • Evidence of working at enhanced practice level, per the Primary Care and General Practice Nursing Career Framework
  • Trained cervical sample taker.
  • Experience in service leadership, teaching, or clinical supervision.
  • Experience in QI and data reporting (QOF, IIF, audits).
