Job summary

A recruitment agency in engineering is seeking a Wire-person / Trainee Field Service Engineer in Norwich. This role involves performing wiring and fitting functions, assembling control panels, and ensuring compliance with relevant standards. Candidates must be prepared to work Monday to Friday with potential overtime on weekends. A competitive salary range of £28,000–£36,000 is offered.

Responsibilities

  • Perform fitting and wiring functions in accordance with the relevant standards.
  • Fit and assemble control panels.
  • Mark out back‑plate and door by cross‑referencing GA, label diagrams, product specification sheets and other supporting information.
  • Use hydraulic punch to drill holes and install door‑mounted components.
  • Fit trunking, DIN rail and control components such as isolators, contactors, relays and transformers.
  • Ensure all items are fitted to the highest standards, use correct fixings and pass stringent QC checks.
  • Construct multi‑bay enclosures with manufacturer’s standard assembly fixings and accessories.
  • Ensure enclosures have associated gaskets to comply with the relevant IP rating.
  • Connect copper busbars for power and earth systems to IEC 61439, tightening to specified torque settings.
  • Wire back‑plate and door control cables in accordance with wiring schematics and data sheets, fitting correct cable crimps/ferrules and marking cables with identification.
  • Install mains power cables with correct size, type and identification.
  • Fit power cables to components and tighten to specified torque, applying torque paint and witnessing by a suitable employee.
  • Install earth cables throughout the enclosure to the earth bar, ensuring all removable covers are connected.

Hours of Work

Monday to Friday: 08:30 am – 04:45 pm (overtime from 07:00 am to 08:30 am)
Saturday: 07:00 am – 12:00 pm (overtime)
