Job summary

Mane Contract Services is seeking experienced Wiremen for a major National Grid project in Melksham. You will join a specialist electrical team to wire panels, perform control wiring, and install electrical systems in high-voltage substations in line with project specifications.

You will read schematics, route cables, terminate terminations, and assist with commissioning and testing. Strong safety awareness and teamwork are essential for delivering quality installations on a UK energy

Qualifications

  • Experience wiring panels and control systems in HV substations.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and schematics.
  • Experience installing and wiring Protection Relay Panels, LVAC Boards and Switchgear.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out panel wiring, control wiring and electrical installation works within National Grid substations.
  • Install, terminate and connect electrical cabling per drawings and specs.
  • Assist with installation, refurbishment and commissioning of electrical equipment.
  • Wire and connect National Grid equipment including switchgear, relays, batteries, transformers and telecoms gear.
  • Read and interpret schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Carry out cable routing, glanding and termination to a high standard.
  • Support testing, fault finding and commissioning activities.
  • Maintain accurate records of completed work.
  • Comply with National Grid standards and safety procedures.
  • Maintain high standards of housekeeping and safe working practices.
  • Collaborate with supervisors and engineers to deliver works safely.

Job description

We are seeking experienced Wiremen to join a major National Grid project in Melksham, supporting the installation, wiring, refurbishment and testing of electrical systems within high-voltage substation environments. Working as part of a specialist electrical team, you will be responsible for carrying out high-quality panel wiring, control wiring and electrical installation works while ensuring all activities are completed safely, efficiently and in accordance with National Grid standards and project specifications. This is an excellent opportunity to work on a major UK energy infrastructure project with a well-established engineering contractor.

Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out panel wiring, control wiring and electrical installation works within National Grid substations.
  • Install, terminate and connect electrical cabling in accordance with engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Assist with the installation, refurbishment and commissioning of electrical equipment.
  • Wire and connect a range of National Grid equipment, including: AIS and GIS Switchgear, Protection Relay Panels, LVAC Boards, Battery Systems, Transformers, Circuit Breakers, Disconnectors, Earth Switches, Current Transformers (CTs), Voltage Transformers (VTs), Telecommunications Equipment, Marshalling Kiosks, Supplies Pillars, Blockhouses.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and layout drawings.
  • Carry out cable routing, glanding and termination to a high standard.
  • Support testing, fault finding and commissioning activities where required.
  • Maintain accurate records of completed work.
  • Ensure all work complies with National Grid standards, Health & Safety legislation and company procedures.
  • Maintain high standards of housekeeping and safe working practices.
  • Work collaboratively with supervisors, engineers and project teams to deliver works safely and efficiently.
Essential Skills & Experience
  • Previous experience working as a Wireman within National Grid, HV substations or industrial electrical environments.
  • Experience with panel wiring, control wiring and electrical installation.
  • Strong understanding of electrical drawings and wiring schematics.
  • Experience installing and wiring: Protection Relay Panels, LVAC Boards, Switchgear, Transformers, Battery Systems, Control Panels, Marshalling Kiosks, Telecommunications Equipment.
  • Experience carrying out cable glanding and termination.
  • Understanding of safe systems of work within high-voltage environments.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
Essential Certifications
  • Candidates must hold the relevant National Grid authorisations and site competencies applicable to the project.
  • Ideally applicants will also hold: National Grid Person (NG Person), National Grid Competent Person/Authorised Person (where applicable), ECS or CSCS Card, Manual Handling, Relevant Electrical Qualifications, Appropriate PPE for site attendance.
