RWE Renewables are offering the opportunity for motivated people to begin a career in renewable energy with us. This 3‑year apprenticeship scheme will enable the selected candidates to develop into technicians working on wind turbines. The first two years will be at one of our two apprenticeship providers – Coleg Llandrillo, Rhyl in North Wales or IPS International, Rochester.
The third year will consist of on‑site training from the Fleet Servicing Service Vessel which supports turbine maintenance at Greater Gabbard and London Array windfarms in the UK along with Amrumbank, Kaskasi and Nordsee Ost windfarms in Germany.
We will provide a comprehensive and well‑supported learning programme including classroom‑based learning and experience on site working with our technicians. Completing the apprenticeship will result in an NVQ level 3 qualification in Engineering.
Our Wind Turbine Technicians work as part of a small team focused on specific offshore wind farms. Successful candidates will learn to carry out all aspects of wind turbine maintenance including scheduled, unscheduled, proactive and troubleshooting maintenance on wind turbines.
Your hard work will ensure our wind farms continue to deliver power to households and businesses. It is a rewarding job that allows you to work on highly advanced machinery in a challenging environment. Once trained you will be working at sea, in all weathers and at height, using heavy, complex mechanical and electrical equipment. You will be required to demonstrate a commitment to Health and Safety in all aspects of your work.
Initially the focus will be upon learning and developing engineering knowledge through education and training. However, examples of the tasks covered as technicians in the longer term include:
Fleet Servicing is an established team within the Offshore Operations that will be responsible for the annual servicing of wind turbines at Trident, Greater Gabbard and London Array from a Service Operations Vessel.

You will be keen to learn and undertake a practical role. Additionally, due to the high complexity of the role it may mean standby or on‑call may be required.
If you require accommodation at our training facility, please note that, due to provider requirements, candidates must be aged 18 or over by August 2026.
All apprentices will be expected to study full time for the first two years at Coleg Llandrillo, Rhyl in North Wales or IPS International, Rochester before being deployed at one or more of the windfarms supported by the Fleet SOV for practical experience of working on a wind farm.
Accommodation will be provided during term time for the first two years, along with travel expenses for two journeys per month between the home location and the term time address.
Term‑time accommodation will be provided with the costs of rent and utilities being paid by RWE. The cost of your commute to college each day will also be paid for unless group travel is provided by RWE.
During term time, there will be a weekly set allowance for food and drink while away from home.
For those candidates invited to the assessment day, all reasonable travel costs will be paid by RWE. This will be discussed with you upon invitation.
