Performance and Improvement Manager – Surgical Specialties Division

An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Surgical Specialties Division for a permanent post supporting Westmoreland Street Hospital as the Performance and Improvement Manager.

The post holder will be responsible for daytime site management of UCH at Westmoreland Street, chairing the daily bed meeting, and working with ward staff to allocate beds and maintain patient flow across the site, linking in with UCH Tower and other Trusts to lead in the management of patient transfers. The post holder will also be responsible for supporting service improvements across the Division to deliver safer and more efficient patient pathways, line managing a team of 4 ward clerks, and is expected to be on site at Westmoreland Street every day.

Key Responsibilities
  • Daytime site management of UCH at Westmoreland Street.
  • Chair daily bed meetings and coordinate bed allocation and patient flow across the site.
  • Link with UCH Tower and other Trusts to manage patient transfers.
  • Line manage a team of four ward clerks.
  • Ensure daily presence at Westmoreland Street.
  • Enable proactive management of theatre flow to ensure timely patient care and maximize efficiency.
  • Manage daytime admissions to UCH at Westmoreland Street as site manager.
  • Lead service improvement initiatives, establishing and monitoring quality control measures to support efficient patient pathways and improve reporting quality.
  • Provide robust data analysis to support clinical teams in delivering change programmes that improve patient care.
  • Monitor compliance with key performance and waiting time targets, recommending improvements.
  • Collaborate with the theatres service manager to maintain accurate records of activity, including cancellations and reasons.
  • Provide training and development to staff implementing service improvement initiatives (18‑week validation, nurse‑led discharge, etc.).
