Job summary

London South East Colleges (LSEC) is seeking a Wellbeing Officer to provide specialist wellbeing support, mentoring and mental health interventions for students. You will run one-to-one interventions, group workshops and collaborate with staff and external agencies to help learners overcome barriers and succeed in college.

You will have an undergraduate degree, English and maths GCSE, and at least two years' experience in mental health or wellbeing support, with strong communication and IT

About the role:

We are seeking a compassionate, proactive and skilled Wellbeing Officer to join our team. This is an opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of students by providing specialist wellbeing support, mental health interventions and mentoring that help learners overcome barriers, achieve their goals and enjoy a positive college experience.

Working as part of our dedicated Wellbeing Team, you will support students experiencing a wide range of wellbeing and mental health challenges through one-to-one interventions, group sessions, workshops and collaborative support planning.

About the Role

As a Wellbeing Officer, you will:

• Deliver individual wellbeing and mentoring interventions tailored to students' needs.
• Facilitate workshops and group sessions that build emotional resilience, confidence and self-management skills.
• Undertake initial wellbeing assessments and help identify appropriate support pathways.
• Work closely with curriculum staff, safeguarding teams, student support services, health professionals and external agencies.
• Support students experiencing mental health difficulties to engage successfully with their studies.
• Maintain accurate case records and contribute to effective information sharing and case management processes.
• Promote a culture of positive wellbeing across the college through awareness initiatives, training and events.

About You

We are looking for someone who has:

Essential

• A relevant undergraduate degree.
• GCSE Maths and English (or equivalent) at Grade C/Level 2 or above.
• At least two years' experience supporting individuals with mental health or wellbeing needs.
• Knowledge of mental health issues and the ability to recognise concerns and make appropriate referrals.
• Experience managing complex situations and responding calmly in challenging circumstances.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication and organisational skills.
• The ability to build positive relationships with students, staff and external organisations.
• Strong IT skills and the ability to maintain accurate and confidential records.

Desirable

• A professional or postgraduate qualification relevant to mental health, wellbeing or student support.
• Experience working with young people or young adults in an educational setting.
• Knowledge of local mental health services and support networks.
• Understanding of the challenges faced by students with mental health difficulties in further education.
