Job summary

The Health and Safety Executive is seeking a Well Engineering & Operations Inspector to regulate offshore and onshore oil and gas well construction and operations, ensuring health and safety risks are effectively managed.

You will undertake inspections, compile technical reports, and provide expert advice across well engineering, drilling and other well operations, including investigating incidents and enforcing where required.

Qualifications

• Proven track record in managing technical projects.

• Modeling and managing drilling operations at senior level.
• Experience with risk assessment and risk management tools.
• Knowledge of well servicing operations and ability to work with other technical disciplines at all levels.
• Full UK driving licence unless reasonable adjustments are made under the Equality Act 2010.
• A degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant engineering or earth science discipline and/or substantial well engineering and operations experience in an operational environment.
• Chartered status with the Engineering Council, or the ability to work towards it.
• Corporate membership of an approved professional institution, or the ability to work towards it.

The Role

As a Well Engineering & Operations Inspector, you will regulate offshore and onshore oil and gas well construction and operations activities, ensuring health and safety risks are effectively managed.

Drawing on your industry expertise, you will undertake a wide variety of activities from rig site inspections to technical reporting. You will provide specialist health and safety advice across well engineering, drilling and other well operations.

You will also investigate accidents, incidents and complaints, identifying risk management issues and supporting appropriate enforcement action where required.

Additionally, you will:

• Contribute to guidance covering the design and operation of wells

About You

To be considered as a Well Engineering & Operations Inspector, you will need:

• A proven track record in managing and contributing to relevant technical projects
• Sound practical experience of well engineering with responsibility for planning and managing drilling operations at a senior level
• Practical experience with risk assessment and risk management tools
• Sound knowledge of well servicing operations and the ability to work with other technical disciplines at all levels
• A full driving licence permitting you to drive in the UK, unless reasonable adjustments can be made in line with the Equality Act 2010
• A degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant engineering or earth science discipline and/or substantial well engineering and operations experience in an operational environment within the upstream offshore oil and gas industry
• Chartered status with the Engineering Council, or the ability to work towards it
• Corporate membership of an approved professional institution, or the ability to work towards it
