Job summary

North Walkden Primary is seeking a welfare assistant to supervise pupils during the midday break, either in the grounds or within the school building. The role focuses on promoting safe, positive behaviour and supporting constructive playtime activities.

Experience with young children is preferred, and safeguarding awareness is advantageous. The appointment is fixed-term from November 2026 to 31 July 2027, with shortlisting in October and interviews in w/c 19 October 2026.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience of working with young children is preferred.
  • Evidence of excellent practices on managing behaviour through leading by example and proactive playtime activities.
  • Current Safeguarding training or awareness of Safeguarding children’s welfare is preferred.

  • Supervise pupils during the midday break in the school grounds or inside the school premises.

North Walkden Primary School is looking to appoint a welfare assistant to supervise pupils during the midday break either in the school grounds or in the school premises i.e. during the time when pupils are taking their meal or if the pupils are unable to use the school grounds because of inclement weather.

Previous experience of working with young children is preferred, evidence of excellent practices on managing behaviour through leading by example, modelling expected behaviour and being proactive with encouraging constructive playtime activities. Current Safeguarding training or evidence of awareness of Safeguarding children’s welfare is also a preference.
