The role

As a Welder Instructor, you’ll deliver practical and theoretical training in welding, fabrication, and machining to military trainees. This is a unique opportunity to use your technical expertise to shape future defence capability, support national security, and grow your own career in a dynamic and purpose‑driven environment.

You’ll be part of our Land Training business unit, supporting the RAF’s Engineering and Maintenance Training Centre (EMTC) programme. Your work will directly contribute to Babcock’s reputation for excellence in defence education and the long‑term capability of the armed forces.

Day‑to‑day you’ll be:

  • Delivering practical and theoretical instruction in workshop disciplines using modern teaching methods
  • Preparing lesson plans, assessments, and training materials aligned with course specifications
  • Monitoring trainee progress and providing feedback and remedial support
  • Maintaining workshop safety, equipment accountability, and compliance with MOD and Babcock standards
  • Contributing to course development, quality assurance, and continuous improvement initiatives

The role is based onsite at MOD Lyneham, and the set working times are Monday to Friday, totalling 37 hours per week.

Essential experience of the Welder Instructor:
  • Supervisory experience in a technical or engineering setting
  • Proven experience in a relevant working environment
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Outlook
Qualifications for the Welder Instructor:
  • A welding‑related apprenticeship and/or qualification to a recognised Level 3
