Role Overview
A precision engineering manufacturer is seeking an experienced Welder Fabricator to support the production of high-quality aerospace components. The role involves TIG welding-primarily on aluminium-and assisting with the fabrication of components to meet strict aerospace standards, working within defined production deadlines.
Shift & Pay
- Shift Pattern: Monday-Thursday: 7:30am-4:30pm; Friday: 7:30am-12:30pm
- Overtime: Available, including Saturday mornings at 1.5x
- Work Type: Day shift
- Welding Types: Mainly TIG on aluminium
- Qualifications: Aerospace-approved qualifications or significant time-served aerospace welding experience
- Salary: Competitive, depending on experience
Key Responsibilities
Production
- Meet output targets in line with daily work lists.
- Review work orders, drawings and assemblies to determine requirements and appropriate welding techniques.
- Ensure job cards have prior operations signed/stamped before starting work.
- Interpret engineering planning documents, drawings and SOPs accurately.
- Source required equipment, materials and gases; ensure all equipment is suitable for customer requirements and report issues before use.
- Perform fabrication tasks including cleaning, preparing, cutting, burning and TIG welding components.
- Set up, measure and weld assemblies using appropriate methods.
- Clean, finish and ensure all welded parts meet standards before passing to the next production stage.
- Complete all relevant operational documentation.
Quality
- Maintain a clean, organised work area and ensure parts are correctly stored.
- Ensure all components comply with drawings and specifications.
- Report any non-conformances via the NCR process.
Health & Safety
- Promote safe working practices and comply with all safety regulations.
- Adhere to PPE requirements at all times.
Collaboration & Communication
- Liaise with other departments to support efficient workflow.
- Train and support colleagues when required.
- Follow company policies and elevate issues when necessary.
- Participate in team meetings and continuous improvement initiatives.
Additional Duties
- Carry out any other reasonable tasks required by the business.
Person Specification
Essential
- Full, unrestricted right to work in the UK.
- Time-served apprenticeship or HNC in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent).
- Minimum 3 year's experience in a manufacturing or engineering environment.
- Proven experience in TIG welding-ideally aerospace-grade.
- Ability to interpret engineering documents and use appropriate equipment to achieve customer specifications.
- Strong communicator with the ability to build positive working relationships.
- Professional, proactive, and able to take ownership of tasks.
- Flexible and willing to work overtime or travel if required.
- Positive, team-oriented approach with pride in high-quality work.
