A charitable organization focused on waterways is offering a volunteer opportunity in Thorne. Participants will engage in activities such as cutting back vegetation along the canal. No prior skills are required, and it's an excellent chance to meet new people and learn about the significance of volunteering with the organization. Dress appropriately for winter, and come prepared for a fulfilling experience from 10am–2pm. Join us in making a difference along the canals.
Are you interested in volunteering at the Canal and River Trust but don’t know where to start? Our Welcome Sessions are the perfect place to meet the local teams, talk to our volunteers, and see the range of activities you could get involved with. You can find an opportunity that best suits your interests, skills, availability and ability, whether that’s outside on the canals, at one of our attractions, or from the comfort of home.
Give Your Time, Help Us Shine: Volunteer Today!
Join us as we cut back overgrown vegetation and low hanging trees at Thorne along the Stainforth & Keadby canal. Meet the Volunteer Leader and the Volunteer Taskforce team, have a laugh, enjoy hot drinks and biscuits, and see what volunteering along the canal is all about!
We’ll be out from 10am–2pm, but there’s no pressure to stay for the whole session. We’ll meet in Stanilands Car Park at 9:30am for a safety briefing, risk assessments, and sign-in before heading out to the canal. Lifejackets and all necessary equipment will be provided. Please bring ankle-supporting boots and make sure to dress appropriately for the winter weather.
Get an insight into the incredible work our Taskforce volunteers do — this is just one of many important tasks they carry out across our canals around South Yorkshire.
Come along and see what it’s all about — and if you have any questions, feel free to get in touch.
