Job summary

Babcock International, based at HMNB Clyde, is seeking a Weapons Engineer Instructor to train Royal Navy submarine engineers. The role involves delivering classroom and simulator-based training, providing SME support for design and review, and ensuring governance and safety compliance.

A security clearance is required, and full training will be provided to develop instructional capability. Based onsite in Helensburgh, the role offers 37 hours per week with a Monday-Thursday schedule and a Friday

Qualifications

  • Sound knowledge of submarine Tactical Weapons Engineering systems.
  • Experience in Weapons Handling operations.
  • Officer of the quarter competent user.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver classroom and simulator-based training focused on Astute Class submarines.
  • Provide SME support for training design and review.
  • Support governance through reporting, documentation and assurance.
  • Liaise with stakeholders as technical training contact.
  • Maintain safe systems of work and ensure policy compliance.

The role

We’re looking for experienced Weapons Engineers (Competent Users) to join us as instructors supporting the Royal Navy Submarine Service. This is a unique opportunity to transition into a rewarding, shore-based role where you’ll pass on your operational knowledge and experience to the next generation of engineers.

No prior instructional experience is required, we’ll provide full training and ongoing support to help you develop into a confident and effective instructor.

Day-to-day you’ll be:
  • Delivering classroom and simulator-based training, primarily focused on Astute Class submarines
  • Providing subject matter expertise to support training design and review
  • Supporting governance through reporting, documentation, and assurance
  • Liaising with stakeholders and acting as a technical point of contact for training queries
  • Maintaining safe systems of work and ensuring compliance with internal and external policies

The role is based onsite at HMNB Clyde, and the set working times are Monday to Thursday (08:00–16:30) and Friday (08:00–13:00), totalling 37 hours per week.

Essential experience of the Weapons Engineer:
  • Sound knowledge of submarine Tactical Weapons Engineering systems
  • Experience in Weapons Handling operations.
Qualifications for the Weapons Engineer:
  • Officer of the quarter competent user.
Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
