Water Quality Scientist
Overview
Our Water Quality team is looking to hire a Water Quality Scientist. This role is part of a dynamic team focused on ensuring we protect public health by delivering a wholesome water supply.
Responsibilities
- Assess risk within service reservoirs and water supply zones (WSZs) to deliver regulatory obligations associated with Drinking Water Safety Plans (DWSPs).
- Carry out Regulation 27 DWSP risk assessments and identify residual risks that require mitigation.
- Participate in a programme of Service Reservoir and WSZ DWSP audits, collating and interpreting outputs with water quality monitoring data.
- Validate existing DWSP risks and identify emerging risks during the Water Quality Risk Review process.
- Collaborate with the Service Reservoir Engineer team to deliver a programme of DWSP audits for service reservoirs.
- Track and ensure completion of actions related to non‑compliances identified.
- Maintain DWSP updates on the company’s bespoke DWSP IT system to meet regulatory and internal requirements.
Qualifications
- Educated to degree level (or equivalent) in a scientific discipline.
- Good written and verbal communication skills and ability to build positive relationships with stakeholders.
- Competent in Microsoft Office; working knowledge of Power BI is advantageous.
- Experience using company systems such as DWSP IT, EQUIS, and Sample Manager.
- Proactive, can‑do attitude, open‑minded, supportive of new methods, and able to manage workloads.
Additional Qualities
- Water industry experience.
- Valid driving licence.
Location & Working Arrangements
Hybrid working based at Clearwater Court, Reading. You may be required to provide out‑of‑hours technical support on a 1‑week‑in‑every‑6 basis (training provided).
Compensation & Benefits
- Competitive salary up to £35,000 per annum.
- Annual leave: 26 days per year, increasing to 30 with length of service (plus bank holidays).
