Job summary

Laings in Glasgow is seeking an experienced Watchmaker Level 2 to support our growing service business. You will diagnose wristwatches, service mechanical and quartz movements, and maintain brand accreditations while ensuring high workmanship standards.

You will manage service orders, coach junior colleagues, and work within a safety-conscious workshop environment. A recognised watchmaking qualification and a passion for horology are essential.

Qualifications

  • Recognised qualification and/or proven experience as a professional watchmaker servicing mechanical movements.
  • At least one watch brand accreditation.
  • Advanced knowledge of mechanical and quartz movements, casing work, bracelet adjustment, workshop tooling, and machinery.
  • Excellent manual dexterity and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication, organisation, and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritise workload, and maintain high levels of accuracy.
  • Experience coaching and developing others.
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Outlook and Word.
  • Positive, enthusiastic approach to horology and teamwork.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose wristwatches, identify required parts, and recommend appropriate Laings Service Products.
  • Maintain relevant brand accreditations and technical knowledge of brands, models, and service products.
  • Carry out complete servicing of mechanical and quartz movements, including disassembly, repair, reassembly, lubrication, and adjustment.
  • Perform quality checks on movement performance, cleanliness, timing, casing, polishing, and water resistance.
  • Ensure completed work meets all quality standards and service order requirements before submission to Quality Control.
  • Maintain workshop tools, machinery, materials, and a clean, safe working environment in line with workshop policies and SOPs.
  • Manage service orders, material controls, and accurate progress updates to support efficient workflow.
  • Meet productivity and quality targets while maintaining awareness of workshop and business KPIs.
  • Handle consumables, chemicals, and machinery in accordance with Health & Safety requirements.
  • Coach and support junior team members, share best practice, and contribute to continuous improvement of workshop procedures and brand standards.
  • Escalate significant issues to line management when required.
