Job description

We are seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated individual to assist in the day-to-day running of a busy Waste Transfer Station at our Cowley Road Depot in Blyth on a part time basis, working 14.5 hours per week. This is a dynamic role, no two days are the same and your responsibilities would include:

  • Inspecting vehicles and the waste they are delivering into our Waste Transfer Station.
  • Directing site users to the correct skips and bays.
  • Keeping the site litter free, safe and tidy for all users.
  • Operating plant and machinery to load skips.
  • Manage capacity of skips and book exchanges when necessary.
  • Work with site management to ensure compliance with the site licence.

You must be physically fit, able to multi-task and prioritise your own workload, good problem-solving and communication skills are essential to ensure the smooth running of the transfer station. The successful candidate will be required to work 14.5 hours per week, 08:00am - 16:00pm on Thursdays and 08:00-15:30 on Friday. This role is part of a job share so you will be expected to help cover additional shifts Monday - Wednesday when necessary.

Qualifications and Training
  • Previous experience of operating plant and machinery such as Telehandlers / Loading Shovels would be desirable
  • Driving licence desirable

The successful candidate would be required to undertake training, including Telehandler training, to enable you to operate site plant and machinery. We are really looking for someone who is friendly, courteous and able to get on with site users, but also able to challenge in areas of site safety when necessary, such as users not wearing the correct PPE or depositing waste that the site is not permitted to receive etc. An important aspect of the role is the accurate completion of paperwork such as a daily task sheet that is required to help ensure the site meets its permit requirements. If you are the type of person who likes to keep busy, litter picking, sweeping, interacting with and directing site users, then is could be the role for you.
