Job summary

Ministry of Justice (HMPPS Lancaster Farms) seeks a permanent full-time Waste Management Officer to oversee waste collection, processing and compliance across the establishment. The role includes training prisoners in accredited waste qualifications, maintaining records, and coordinating contractor services.

There is no line management; regular unsocial hours are expected with an allowance. The post requires Level 3 waste qualification or willingness to work towards one and relevant waste

Qualifications

• Level 3 or equivalent in a waste-related subject, or willingness to work towards it.
• Relevant work experience in a waste management environment.
• Experience of using industrial standard machinery and equipment.
• Knowledge of waste hierarchy and duty of care, including waste transfer notes.
• Knowledge of waste permits and exemptions and when they should be used.

Responsibilities

• Collect, process and dispose of waste in line with legislation and environmental standards.
• Manage control measures for restricted waste, including shredding and bailing confidential waste.
• Order and manage contractor services and maximise return on commodities.
• Record weight, cost and revenue for waste removed; report monthly recycling data to HQ.
• Promote recycling and ensure compliance with waste legislation; training prisoners in accredited qualifications.
