Job description
Overview

Waste Management Driver. 12 vacant positions. Grade 4, £31,022 up to 32,061 per annum pro rata (including market supplement). 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday on a permanent contract.

We currently have twelve vacancies for Category C Driving positions ahead of the implementation of a new Food Waste Service commencing February next year. We are proud of our in-house waste collection services and have invested in a brand-new fleet of refuse collection vehicles in September this year, with new food waste collection vehicles arriving February 2026.

Your role will include being responsible for a small team collecting food waste in our new food waste collection vehicles primarily, but you may also collect other waste streams (Refuse, Dry Recycling or Garden waste) as part of the wider waste management services we provide. You will also be involved in the initial distribution of food waste containers to residents prior to food waste collections commencing.

As the team leader you will ensure tasks and paperwork are completed in a professional manner, deliver excellent customer service to our residents, and help ensure better management of our resources. You will also support residents to recycle their waste effectively, enabling the council to meet its Corporate Plan objective to increase recycling in the borough.

You must hold a minimum of a Category C licence and be physically fit, able to walk long distances each day, move wheeled bins, sacks, and any other waste containers as required. Excellent customer service is essential for this key frontline service.

Applicants should be committed individuals who are looking to provide high quality public services to our residents. You will be expected to behave in accordance with the council’s values, which include being customer focused and courteous when interacting with members of the public, whilst ensuring service standards are met.
