Job summary

Northumberland County Council is seeking a waste data and compliance specialist to lead data projects within the Contracts and Commercial Team. The role will become a subject area expert in areas like Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) and Digital Waste Tracking (DWT), developing robust data collection and reporting systems.

The successful candidate will monitor waste data, support cost reporting for packaging under EPR, work with Suez, and manage FOI requests, with a hybrid working pattern

Qualifications

  • Degree (or equivalent) in Environmental Science/Management, Waste & Resource Management, Data Analytics, or Engineering.
  • CIWM GradMCIWM/MCIWM or WAMITAB qualification relevant to municipal waste operations.
  • Holder of a valid UK driving license.
  • Working knowledge of EPR, DRS and Digital Waste Tracking requirements and reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support bringing experience of managing, reporting and interpretation of waste data.
  • Act as a waste contamination champion by monitoring the PFI Contract waste rejection and sampling process for recycling materials.
  • Work with the wider Neighbourhood Services Team and PFI operational contractors to reduce contamination in recycling.
  • Support operational colleagues to understand and report on profitability of trade waste services.
  • Lead on handling Freedom of Information (FOI) requests for the team.
