Job summary

AtkinsRéalis is seeking a Waste Classification Specialist to join our Sustainable Land and Resource Management Practice. Based in the UK with hybrid working, you will lead waste classification assessments for major infrastructure projects across transport, energy, water and buildings sectors.

You will interpret ground investigation data, develop sampling plans, advise on waste legislation, and prepare technical reports while mentoring junior staff and supporting business development.

Qualifications

• Degree-qualified in a scientific or engineering discipline with waste classification experience.
• Strong knowledge of WM3 Guidance and waste legislation.
• Experience developing sampling plans and interpreting analytical data.

Responsibilities

• Lead and support waste classification assessments for diverse projects.
• Review ground investigation data to classify soils, made ground and wastes.
• Develop sampling plans and disposal route strategies.
• Assess materials against WAC criteria and landfill classifications.
• Provide regulatory guidance and prepare technical reports and submissions.
• Support client relationships, bids, and proposals; mentor junior staff.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and manage project delivery aspects.
• Attend site visits and coordinate with regulators and laboratories.
