Warehouse Team Leader

Salary: £16.41 per hour

Location: Wigan (Fixed Location)

Overview

Our client is seeking a proactive and hands‑on Warehouse Team Leader to join their dynamic team in Wigan. In this role, you will work closely with the Branch Manager to foster an efficient and friendly warehouse environment, providing exceptional service to their trade customers. Your commitment to safety, quality, and teamwork will contribute to ensuring the successful operation of their warehouse, handling over 2,500 insulated glass components.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the Branch Manager in maintaining compliance with Health and Safety regulations and policy, ensuring a safe working environment for all team members.
  • Lead the warehouse team in efficient operations, including goods‑inwards and goods‑outwards processes, while ensuring accurate and timely deliveries to customers.
  • Support the implementation of stock management procedures and conduct regular stock takes to maintain data integrity.
  • Collaborate with the Branch Manager to resolve equipment faults or maintenance issues promptly.
  • Maintain high standards of warehouse housekeeping and ensure all team members adhere to best practices for a clean and organised workspace.
Essential Criteria
  • Proficient in English with excellent communication skills.
  • Valid Counterbalance Forklift Truck Operator Licence (willingness to convert to 4-Way Reach FLT is preferred).
  • GCSE qualifications or equivalent in Mathematics and English.
  • Sound understanding of warehouse operations and Health and Safety regulations.
  • Strong organisational skills with a proven ability to multitask and work independently.
  • Flexible and willing to work rotational shifts while demonstrating a customer service-focused approach.
  • A 'can-do' attitude with motivation to lead and inspire your team.
Advantageous Criteria
  • At least one year's experience in a similar role.
  • An IOSH Accreditation.
  • NVQ Level 2 Warehousing and Distribution or equivalent qualification.
  • Experience in barcode scanning, working with automated stock and delivery systems – BarRed & Transend.
  • Awareness of ISO 9001 Quality Control Procedures.
  • Experience in mentoring/leading a team in line with Investors in People standards.
  • A valid driving licence.
