Job summary

AWD online is seeking a Warehouse Operative / Yard Operative to join a busy outdoor materials operation in Shafton, Barnsley. The role involves supporting receipt, dispatch and organised storage of materials with full training provided.

Working on early shifts (4am–4pm) with a strong emphasis on safety and accuracy, you will assist in moving steel sections, plates and documentation while ensuring smooth deliveries and production flow.

Qualifications

• Strong attention to detail and a proactive approach to safety.
• Able to perform regular manual handling in a busy outdoor environment.
• Basic understanding of steel processing, including beams, plates, flats and angles.
• Able to read and understand delivery and order notes.

Responsibilities

• Load and Unload Deliveries: Safely load and unload lorries using overhead cranes, forklifts or side loaders
• Pick Materials for Production: Select steel sections and plates required for machines
• Check Delivery Documentation: Read and understand delivery and order notes, verifying materials as required
• Organise Receipt and Dispatch: Manage incoming and outgoing materials and arrange products in line with operational requirements
• Feed Shotblast Machines: Load, unload and stack steel onto shotblast machines
• Maintain Health and Safety: Follow onsite health and safety regulations and support safe working practices at all times

Warehouse Operative / Yard Operative

JOB OVERVIEW

Build practical skills in a busy industrial setting while helping materials move safely and efficiently. The Warehouse Operative / Yard Operative supports receipt, dispatch and organised storage of materials across the yard.

Working closely with operational colleagues, the Warehouse Operative / Yard Operative helps keep deliveries, picking and machine-feed activity running smoothly while maintaining high safety standards.

With full training provided, the Warehouse Operative / Yard Operative offers a varied hands-on opportunity involving plant equipment, steel sections, plates and delivery documentation.

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

ESSENTIAL

• Strong attention to detail and a proactive approach to safety
• Comfortable with regular manual handling in a busy outdoor environment
• Basic understanding of steel processing, including beams, plates, flats and angles
• Able to read and understand delivery and order notes

DESIRABLE

• Previous experience with steel, heavy machinery or plant
• Overhead crane, forklift truck or side loader qualifications
• Loading experience
