Warehouse / Yarn Store Operative

Part Time (20 hours per week) | Permanent

We’re looking for a proactive and organised Yarn Store Operative to join our Production team at John Smedley. You’ll play a key part in ensuring our knitters have the right yarn, in the right condition, at the right time, helping us deliver the exceptional quality we’re known for. This hands‑on role involves issuing yarn according to the production schedule, keeping our yarn stores organised, and maintaining accurate stock records.

What You’ll Do:
  • Issue yarn to the knitting floor in line with daily schedules and requests.
  • Accurately check yarn in and out using our stock management system.
  • Keep the yarn store tidy, well‑organised, and in line with storage plans.
  • Monitor yarn levels, liaising with the Yarn Co‑ordinator if there are shortages or alternative options are required.
  • Move yarn between store, knitting floor, and winding/spinning as needed.
  • Support seasonal changeovers and stocktakes, including occasional additional hours.
  • Ensure all yarn is handled and stored to company quality standards.
  • Follow health & safety procedures and report any hazards or incidents promptly.
About You:
  • Previous experience in a warehouse, stores, or stock control role.
  • Comfortable using computerised stock systems.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in all tasks.
  • Physically able to move yarn crates and materials safely.
  • A dependable team player who takes pride in maintaining order and efficiency.
