Job description

We are seeking an experienced and inspirational Ward Sister to lead our inpatient nursing team. You will play a key role in ensuring the highest standards of clinical excellence and compassionate care, supporting both patients and their families during some of lifes most challenging moments.

You will:

  • Provide strong clinical leadership and management to nursing and support staff.
  • Ensure delivery of safe, high-quality, person-centred care.
  • Work collaboratively with the wider multidisciplinary team to support holistic care planning.
  • Promote professional development, reflective practice, and wellbeing among staff.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement and uphold hospice values in all aspects of care.
Main duties of the job

To provide professionalleadership and line management of the in-patient unit nursing team to supportthe delivery of evidence-based patient centred care; which is of a highstandard. To take responsibility for the quality management and ensuring thathigh standards of holistic patient care are maintained in accordance with allCornwall Hospice Care policies, procedures and guidelines. To support themulti-disciplinary team in their decision making in order to achieve optimalpatient flow.

Leadership and Management

2.Act as a professionalnurse leader and role model to the team by applying clinical skills of thehighest standard and taking a proactive approach to the development ofclinical and managerial competence in self and others.

3.Ensure satisfactorychannels of communication are maintained promoting an open and honest cultureamongst all disciplines.

4.Responsible for formallyappraising senior nursing staff and formulating a development plan beneficialto the needs of the unit and the individual.

5.Promote themulti-disciplinary team approach in all aspects of patient and family care.

6.Management of services inline with organisational and department policy and budget.

7.Facilitate regular staffmeetings and attend other management meetings as required.

8.Follow professionalguidelines for the code of professional conduct and ensure staff adhere tothe same principles and organisational policies.

Clinical Governance and Quality

1.Ensure the equality,diversity and rights of patients are promoted and maintained in all areas ofclinical care.

2.Ensure clinical risk ismanaged to as low a level as is reasonable and practicable.

3.Promote a culture ofcontinuous learning and improvement, using clinical incident reports to improve working practices and patient care.

Qualifications
  • Be a first level Adult Registered Nurse
  • Have evidence of professional development
  • A Management or Leadership qualification
  • A post graduate qualification or equivalent experience in Palliative Care
