The Langford Centre is a purpose built, state-of-the‑art facility providing exceptional care for individuals with complex mental health needs, including dementia and neurodegenerative disorders.

Across our 6 wards we provides low secure, high dependency inpatient rehabilitation and acute services; Our aim is to support our patients from the point of admission to engage in their recovery pathway to promote successful reintegration back in to the community.

The aim of the ward manager role is to be responsible and accountable for the day to day management of the ward.

This is achieved by demonstrating excellent leadership skills and an enthusiasm for staff and service development, and to work autonomously and effectively within the multidisciplinary team.

FURTHER KEY RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE WARD MANAGER WILL INCLUDE
General
  • Manage the day‑to‑day running of the ward, coordinating its operations
  • Train, supervise, appraise, line manage and retain all nursing and support staff for the service
  • Coordinate the staff rota and ensure clinical cover remains compliant and in accordance with the service specification
  • Contribute to clinical governance meetings
Clinical
  • Monitor the day‑to‑day clinical care of all residents in the service
  • Ensure the completion of necessary CPA, Managers Panels and Mental Health Tribunal reports by members of the clinical team
  • Provide out of hours cover on an "on‑call" basis in accordance to company's policy
  • Ensure the appropriate communication and liaison with referring clinicians care coordinators or other clinical staff involved in patients care
  • Facilitate care programme approach meetings, ward rounds, managers panels, mental health review tribunals and multidisciplinary care planning meetings
  • Effectively coordinate the review patients in at regular intervals as clinically indicated
  • To ensure medication is administered as prescribed and that it is reviewed at appropriate intervals by medical staff
  • Facilitate and coordinate treatment plans using the care programme approach. Also using good clinical practice within the MDT setting. Ensuring effective use of resources and the updating of plans within agreed time limits
  • Alongside the consultant psychiatrist the Ward Manager is responsible for coordinating the smooth flow of care from admission of discharge
  • Some shift work will be required on a regular basis to support the nursing team with their duties
