Job summary

Sodexo is seeking a Ward Host Supervisor at Nuffield Health Bristol Hospital to lead daily ward catering, supervise teams and ensure safe, high-quality service for patients and staff. You will manage duties, assist with dietary needs, and monitor compliance with food safety standards in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

The role offers a permanent contract, 37.5 hours per week, and shift patterns across mornings/afternoons. A uniform is provided and a free meal on shift is available.

Qualifications

• Experience in a supervisory role within healthcare, hospitality, catering or a similar customer-focused environment.
• Genuine commitment to providing excellent service and positive experiences for patients and visitors.
• Good knowledge of food safety, health and safety, infection prevention and control, and allergen management.
• Confident leadership and communication skills, ability to motivate and develop a diverse team.
• Strong organisation and time-management skills, prioritising tasks in a busy hospital environment.
• Attention to detail and proactive approach to maintaining standards and addressing issues.
• Basic to intermediate IT skills and ability to maintain records and use ordering/reporting systems.

Responsibilities

• Lead and support the day-to-day ward catering service, ensuring a safe, high-quality and welcoming experience.
• Supervise and motivate ward catering teams, allocate duties, support rotas and standards.
• Oversee preparation, presentation and service of meals and beverages, assist patients with dietary needs.
• Monitor standards across ward catering and related service areas; carry out checks and take action as needed.
• Maintain food safety records, temperature logs, stock and wastage data, with reporting.
• Work with hospital management and other teams to resolve issues and ensure timely, safe service.
• Provide administrative support when the Business Manager is out of the office.
• Support a positive customer-focused culture by handling feedback and promoting service quality.

• Shift Pattern: 5 days out of 7 | mostly Monday to Friday, weekend cover as required

What you’ll do:

• Lead and support the day-to-day ward catering service, ensuring patients, visitors and colleagues receive a safe, high-quality and welcoming experience.


• Supervise and motivate ward catering teams, allocating duties, supporting rotas and ensuring everyone works to the required standards.

• Maintain accurate food safety, temperature, stock, wastage and service records, using systems to support effective reporting.


• Work closely with hospital management and other teams to resolve issues, respond to requests and ensure services are delivered safely, efficiently and on time.


• Provide administrative support while Business Manager is out of office


• Support a positive customer-focused culture by handling feedback professionally, promoting excellent service and helping the team deliver a consistently high standard of care

What you bring:

• Experience in a supervisory role within healthcare, hospitality, catering or a similar customer-focused environment.

• Basic to intermediate IT skills and the confidence to maintain records, use ordering/reporting systems and communicate effectively by email and telephone.
