TheEmergency Department has an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic andhighly motivated individual to join their Ward Clerk team. The successfulapplicant will work as part of a team and be responsible for the provision ofa high-quality administrative service to the unit.The prime responsibilitiesof the post holder will be to assist the nursing teams of the department witha variety of administrative and clerical duties. Some of these will ensurethe smooth and timely movement of patients through the department inaccordance with the emergency care standard. It will also involve assistingthe nurse in charge in a multitude of administrative tasks to ensure thecontinuous smooth running of the Ward.A good standard of general education,previous clerical experience and excellent written and oral communicationskills are essential. Previous hospital or experience of working withinmulti-disciplinary teams would be an obvious advantage.

Toundertake administrative duties at ward level including the accurate andtimely recording of patient activity data on Trust systems. To undertakeclerical and related duties on the ward and enable Sister/Charge Nurse andother ward staff to concentrate more freely on direct patient care. This will involve considerable liaison withother departments and wards on behalf of the ward staff.
Thejobholder will contribute to the maintenance of an environment for effectivecare.

LeedsGeneral Infirmary Hospital - 37.5 hours a week over a 7 day period withinternal rotation to night duties, working opposite shifts to otherdepartmental clerks.

10.PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
Administrative and Clerical Duties
- Record admission, transfer anddischarge activity data onto the Trust PAS system.
- Arrange patients follow-upappointments using the PAS system and order transport for patients whenrequired.
- Record changes to the bed base andinform the relevant corporate team
- Handle telephone calls fromrelatives, hospital staff, public etc, under guidance where necessary fromthe Sister/Charge Nurse, and making calls where appropriate on behalf of wardstaff.
- Ensure that patients medicalrecords (including x-rays) are available on the ward, obtaining these wherenecessary from other departments.
- Transfer pathology and otherreports to patients records, and general collation of records promptly andefficiently, especially on patients discharge.
- Deliver patients mail.
- Order stationary and completerequisition forms under instruction from Sister/Charge Nurse.
- Complete electronic admission/bedsystem as required
- Maintaining records on behalf ofSister/ Charge Nurse.
