Job Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Orrell Ward as a Ward Clerk, undertaking a range of duties that support the smooth running of the department. The post holder must be enthusiastic, dynamic, and possess strong problem‑solving skills alongside an excellent standard of communication. Applicants are required to present original certificates for qualifications at the interview stage. Job Responsibilities
  • Use initiative to promote new ideas and improve service in consultation with the departmental manager and team.
  • Plan and organise own day‑to‑day activities to meet departmental requirements.
  • Attend meetings as requested and report appropriately to the departmental manager and other staff.
  • Liaise with the admissions department for the relevant patient group.
  • Communicate with all members of the multi‑disciplinary team regarding patient care.
  • Treat patients, relatives, carers and colleagues with respect and professionalism at all times.
  • Assist with the timely investigation and resolution of complaints and PALS enquiries.
  • Answer telephones and relay messages and enquiries in a timely manner to nurses, doctors and patients.
  • Act as the first point of contact for the person in charge, handling all communications and tasks, including sensitive issues.
  • Work closely with and support the Co‑ordinator.
  • Liaise with patients, relatives and visitors, providing directions and information as required.
  • Maintain and photocopy records, prepare forms and make appointments as requested.
  • Use the PAS/HIS system effectively, inputting data and ensuring demographic details are correct and updated.
  • Assist in chasing up procedures and obtain investigation reports, informing relevant staff of results.
  • Establish and maintain an effective filing system.
  • Assist the departmental manager and deputy manager to ensure maintenance and cost‑effective use of stock levels.
  • Ensure compliance with e‑compulsory training in moving and handling.
  • Participate in teaching, supervision and monitoring of new ward clerks and junior staff as directed by the departmental manager.
Person Specification
Essential
  • Evidence of basic level of qualification in English and Maths.
  • Ability to work as a member of a team or independently.
  • Good communication skills and organisational skills.
  • Good knowledge of clerical skills required.
Desirable
  • Previous clerical experience.
  • Previous experience of dealing with the public.
  • Experience of working within the NHS.
  • Knowledge of or previous experience of using NHS electronic systems.
Additional
  • Speak English to an appropriate standard with confidence and accuracy, using correct sentence structures and vocabulary.
  • Flexible and hardworking.
