Waking Night Carer in York, YO23. Are you an experienced Waking Night Carer with excellent complex medical care experience? Apply now to join Team Charlie! Offering Up to £17.50 per Hour | £210.00 Gross per Shift.

  • Nearest Station : York Railway Station
  • Salary / Wage : £17.00 Weekdays | £17.50 Weekends | Shift : £204.00 Per Weekday | Shift : £210.00 Per Weekend. All figures quoted in Gross.
  • Driving Requirements : No
  • Essential : Experience supporting a client with complex needs including physical, cognitive and health. Complex Care (PEG and airway suctioning) and waking night experience.

  • Start Date : ASAP
  • Days & Hours : Zero hour / Bank Contract. 9.00pm to 9.00am (term-time weekdays) and 8.00pm to 8.00am (school holidays and weekends). Client will considering offering full or part-time contracts.

About the Client

Meet Charlie – a fun, sociable, and happy 15-year-old with a love of football and gaming. He is the heart of a loving family, where family time is very important, along with cheering on Leeds United! Charlie has complex needs and as a result is totally dependent on others to meet all his social, personal, health, care and medical needs, on a 24 / 7 basis. He is diagnosed with dyskinetic cerebral palsy, progressive dystonia, an involuntary movement disorder, developmental delay, and a visual and hearing impairment. He is a wheelchair user, requires daily oral suctioning, daily chest physio, and oxygen administration, when appropriate He communicates primarily through Eye Gaze technology, switching to simpler "yes / no" signing when required and enjoys a blended liquid diet via his PEG, transitioning to a J-tube in the coming weeks, all his nutrition, fluid and medication is administered via his tube. Charlie experiences frequent, painful, prolonged and debilitating dystonic episodes, impacting every aspect of day‑to‑day life. Despite the complexity of his needs, Charlie’s personality shines through—he’s full of life, humour, and banter.

The Role at a Glance

Charlie’s Waking Night Carer provides essential hands‑on care as nights are often unpredictable, and he rarely manages to get a full night’s sleep due to his dystonia. The focus is to ensure Charlie is as comfortable as possible, which comes with managing pain levels, frequent repositioning, soothing massages, and providing personal care. The role requires you to be attentive, respond promptly and regularly monitor vital signs. The Waking Night Carer will be in Charlie’s room by his side all night. The morning routine typically starts at 6.30am, and Mum or Charlie’s day support worker will assist you to ensure Charlie is ready for the day ahead. Accurate record keeping, along with a detailed handover completed before the end of every shift is required.

A calm, resilient, and compassionate Waking Night Carer with experience supporting a young person with complex needs. It is highly desirable for the Waking Night Carer to support Charlie during a day shift each month, this gives you the opportunity to assist Charlie with activities and therapy input, work alongside your team members and build a relationship with family members.
