Job description

We have a number of vacancies on our Board for people who are passionate about supporting the people and communities of Wrexham County.

What We Are Looking For

We welcome applications from individuals of all backgrounds and experiences. Whether your expertise is in business, legal services, finance, governance, community work, HR, marketing, lived experience, or another field entirely, we are keen to hear from you.

We’re looking for trustees who care deeply about improving people’s lives and want to help strengthen our vital local advice charity. You don’t need previous trustee experience — we value commitment, curiosity and good judgement just as much as technical skills.

Finance or Accounting Experience

We are especially keen to hear from people with experience in finance or accounting in order to support the Board to:

  • Understand and scrutinise budgets, management accounts and financial forecasts
  • Ensure strong financial governance, sustainability and risk management

You’ll use your skills and judgement to help guide our organisation, support our team and make sure Citizens Advice Wrexham remains a vital lifeline for people in our communities.

This is a rewarding opportunity to use your skills, experience and perspective to make a real, tangible difference to local people facing issues such as debt, housing, benefits and cost‑of‑living pressures.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for trustees who can:

  • Communicate clearly and are confident contributing to discussion
  • Think strategically and exercise good, independent judgement
  • Work well as part of a team — collaborative, supportive and inclusive
  • Are open‑minded, willing to learn and comfortable challenging constructively
  • Are committed to the aims of Citizens Advice and act in Citizens Advice Wrexham best interests
  • Uphold our values around equity, diversity and inclusion
Lived Experience

We particularly welcome people who:

  • Have used advice services themselves
  • Understand the challenges faced by people experiencing poverty, debt, housing issues or discrimination
  • Reflect the diversity of the communities we serve across Wrexham
  • What matters most is your commitment to our mission and your willingness to bring your skills, perspective and judgement to help shape our future.
What will you be doing?

As a trustee, you’ll play a key role in shaping our strategy, ensuring strong governance and helping us deliver on our key objectives:

  • Providing the advice that people need to support them with the issues they are facing
  • Advocate for improvements to policies and ways of working that impact on people’s lives

Citizens Advice Wrexham provides free, confidential, impartial advice to help people navigate the challenges they face in everyday life.

As a member of the Trustee Board you will share collective responsibility for:

  • Supporting and providing advice on Citizens Advice Wrexham’s purpose, vision, goals and activities.
  • Approving operational strategies and policies, and monitoring and evaluating their implementation.
  • Overseeing Citizens Advice Wrexham’s financial plans and budgets and monitoring and evaluating progress.
  • Ensuring the effective and efficient administration of the organisation.
  • Ensuring that key risks are being identified, monitored and controlled effectively.
  • Reviewing and approving Citizens Advice Wrexham’s financial statements.
  • Providing support and challenge to Citizens Advice Wrexham’s Chief Executive in the exercise of their delegated authority and affairs.
  • Keeping abreast of changes in Citizens Advice Wrexham’s operating environment.
  • Contributing to regular reviews of Citizens Advice Wrexham’s own governance.
  • Attending Board meetings, adequately prepared to contribute to discussions.
  • Using independent judgement, acting legally and in good faith to promote and protect Citizens Advice Wrexham’s interests, to the exclusion of their own personal and/or any third party interests.
  • Contributing to the broader promotion of Citizens Advice Wrexham’s objects, aims and reputation by applying your skills, expertise, knowledge and contacts.
