Job Summary
Volunteer Health & Wellbeing Ambassador for Healthier Slough at Slough. This is a volunteer role, hours are flexible, based on volunteer availability. Location: Slough (community-based). Contract type: Voluntary (unpaid). Hours: Flexible.
Responsibilities
- Engage, connect and build positive relationships within local community settings.
- Promote awareness of the health and wellbeing services available across Slough.
- Represent Solutions 4 Health professionally at community events, outreach sessions, and local engagement activities.
- Support the distribution of health promotion materials and signpost residents to relevant services.
- Encourage behavioural change by raising awareness of risk factors related to lifestyle, including smoking, inactivity, poor diet, and CVD.
- Support the creation, initiation, and delivery of physical activity groups and community wellbeing sessions (with guidance from staff).
- Assist service users with basic information to help them access available health programmes.
- Contribute towards our organisational target of reaching 24,000 people for a blood pressure reading.
- Support staff during community BP events by welcoming participants, providing information, and ensuring a positive experience.
- Help raise awareness of falls prevention programmes and signpost individuals who may benefit.
- Promote the Stop Smoking Service and direct residents to available support options.
- Assist staff with setting up and packing down community events, outreach sessions and wellbeing activities.
- Maintain confidentiality and uphold organisational values at all times.
- Participate in relevant induction and training sessions.
- Carry out other reasonable tasks within the general scope of the volunteer role.
Qualifications & Requirements
Essential
- A friendly, approachable manner and willingness to engage with diverse communities
- Good communication skills and confidence in speaking with the public
- Reliability, punctuality and the ability to work independently or as part of a team
- Commitment to promoting health and wellbeing
- Willingness to attend training appropriate to the role
Desirable
- Experience of volunteering or community work
- Interest in public health, lifestyle behaviour change, or community wellbeing
- Ability to speak additional community languages commonly used in Slough
