Job summary

A local charitable theatre in the heart of York is seeking a Volunteer Finance Director to bring their expertise and support the financial management of this beloved venue. The role includes processing invoices, preparing financial reports, and engaging with the theatre community. Ideal candidates will have a recognised finance qualification and a passion for working collaboratively, committing around 30 hours a month including meetings and show nights.

Qualifications

  • Recognised finance or accounting qualification (e.g., AAT, ACCA, CIMA, ICAEW, or equivalent).
  • Experience in finance, bookkeeping, or accounting.
  • Organised, reliable, and attentive to detail.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and engage in theatre life.
  • Commitment of around 30 hours a month, including trustee meetings and show nights.

  • Preparing budgets and financial reports for the board.
  • Reconciling accounts using Xero.
  • Managing bar and front-of-house income.
  • Overseeing VAT and Performing Rights payments.

Do you enjoy working with numbers and want to support something really special in your local community? We're looking for aVolunteer Finance Directorto join the team at the Joseph Rowntree Theatre-a beautiful, much-loved, volunteer-run theatre in the heart of York.

This is a fantastic opportunity to use your professional financial expertise while making a real difference to a thriving local charity. You'll be part of ourBoard of Trusteesand work closely with our brilliant group of volunteers.

You'll also help out as a Duty Manager at a couple of performances each month-so you'll really get to be part of the theatre buzz!

What you'll be doing:
  • Processing invoices and charges to hirers
  • Preparing budgets and financial reports for the board
  • Reconciling accounts using Xero and our ticketing system
  • Managing bar and front-of-house income (cash and card)
  • Overseeing VAT and Performing Rights payments

You’ll be fully supported and working alongside others-it's very much a team effort.

What we're looking for:

We're looking for someone with a solid financial background who's ready to bring their expertise to a vibrant community setting.

Essential:
  • A recognisedfinance or accounting qualification(e.g. AAT, ACCA, CIMA, ICAEW, or equivalent)
  • Experience in finance, bookkeeping, or accounting
  • Organised, reliable, and attentive to detail
  • to work collaboratively and get involved in theatre life
  • Able to commit around 30 hours a month, including trustee meetings and show nights
Desirable:
  • Experience usingXeroor similar accounting software
  • Previous charity or trustee experience
