Overview

Volunteer Content Writer and Editorial Assistant at Lightbulb. We spotlight bold ideas and deep-tech breakthroughs in engineering, science, aerospace, robotics, infrastructure, and related fields through Mach Speed. We are seeking a passionate and sharp writer to help tell these stories. Please note that this role is not currently paid.

Responsibilities
  • Write articles, interviews, and features focused on engineering
  • Research and fact-check technical subjects with accuracy and clarity
  • Help manage editorial calendars, source stories, and prepare content for publication
  • Assist with newsletter production and social media posts
  • Work closely with the founder and editorial team to refine Lightbulb’s voice and reach
Requirements

Must-Have:

  • Excellent written English and strong storytelling ability
  • Proven interest in science, technology, engineering, or innovation journalism
  • Ability to research and translate complex technical topics for a wider audience
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
  • Enthusiasm for building something bold and fresh

Nice to Have:

  • Experience writing for a publication, blog, newsletter, or university paper
  • Degree (or working towards one) in Journalism, English, STEM, or related fields
  • Basic knowledge of publishing and collaboration tools (Ghost, Slack, Google Workspace preferred)
  • Photography, podcasting, or video editing skills a plus
