Volunteer Opportunity - Crisis Support Drop-In Service

Derbyshire Mind's Crisis Support Drop-In Service is delivered from our Services based in Buxton, Ripley and Swadlincote and provides support for adults who are experiencing or nearing a mental health crisis in a safe and welcoming non-clinical environment. We are looking for local people who feel passionate about helping people in need to help us deliver these essential Mental Health Support Services.

Volunteer Criteria
  • Live in or near Buxton, Ripley or Swadlincote.
  • Interested in volunteering in a supportive role within a Mental Health organisation such as Derbyshire Mind.
  • Available on Friday evenings, Saturday evenings, and/or Sunday afternoons.
Role Details

The purpose of this volunteer role is to support and facilitate the smooth running of Derbyshire Mind's Crisis Support Drop-In Service by presenting a warm and friendly and non-judgemental presence, welcoming and supporting attendees, assisting the Support Workers, and offering support to help attendees engage with various calming activities.

Volunteer shifts (as agreed with each volunteer):

  • Friday nights: 5:30-11:30pm (6 hours)
  • Saturday nights: 5:30-11:30pm (6 hours)
  • Sunday afternoons: 2:00-6:00pm (4 hours)
Training & Support

All volunteers will receive comprehensive training before they start supporting the service. Training will include skills to support someone experiencing emotional distress.

Volunteers will attend team-wide meetings and one-to-one meetings with their supervisor once every 6 weeks.

Transport & Safety

Volunteers must have transport arrangements to get to and from the service as public transport is limited during service hours.

Reimbursement & Hours

Volunteers are asked to commit to regular hours. If you have limited availability, discuss with Senior Support Worker.

Expenses are covered up to £15 per day for travel and up to £4.50 for meals for a 6‑hour shift.
