A LITTLE ABOUT MYSELF

Hi all! I am a young autistic person living in Barry with hEDS and POTs and I am looking for a PA. The job includes helping with daily living tasks, organisation, medical admin and helping doing things that I enjoy. This creates a challenging and fulfilling job that includes doing enjoyable things like cooking and going to interesting new places/events. I am an artist and a writer, hoping to propel my career in the near future, and other interests of mine include music and ecology.

Understanding of autistic experience and non-discriminatory values are very important. Must be open minded and friendly and willing to learn.

Experience in any relevant areas is not necessary but preferable. Living in Barry with a little flexibility is necessary but we are prepared to work around your availability.

Place of Work

Your job will take place at my home in Barry, as well as around Cardiff helping me get out to my local area or social events.

Purpose of the Job

You will support me with most daily living tasks, the majority of which will be on a when-needed basis, even if there is regularity within that.

Hours of Work

Minimum 6 hours per week. Flexibility for times. You will work with other PAs and cover sickness and holidays.

Rate of Pay

£14.40 per hour

Tasks Involved
  • Preparing food and ensuring that I have eaten
  • Medical support, including but not limited to helping put on supports and reminders for medication, helping with correspondence (reading through), supporting me to, during, and from medical appointments
  • Getting me what I need when I can’t move and/or walk, taking notes and staying up to date
  • Supporting me to access the local area
  • Assistance with shopping
  • Reassuring me through stress and helping me through personal crises, such as breakdowns or the beginning of a flare up
  • Assistance with journeys to allow me to be with nature or take part in activities
Type of Person Required
  • A patient and friendly person is important
  • Car driver and owner is not essential but would be helpful
  • Someone mature and sensible to deal with difficult situations, including in public
  • Experience of supporting roles and/or working with autistic people is essential
  • Training to work with autistic people is necessary, but training will be provided
  • Resourcefulness and adaptable, clear communication is essential so that you can adapt to my needs daily and troubleshoot challenging situations
  • Non-discriminatory values are essential
  • Driver with access to own car
About the Job

This position is subject to satisfactory references and a DBS Disclosure (Police Check), which must be completed prior to the commencement of employment. The cost of this check will be covered by the Local Authority.

All necessary checks will be conducted to verify that any candidate has the legal right to work in the UK before employment begins.

Although this is a part-time role, it is a legitimate position requiring the submission of a National Insurance number. Employment will commence under an initial trial period.

Wages will be paid on a four-weekly basis and appropriate holiday pay will be provided.
