The role
Uppingham School is seeking an experienced and highly qualified Visiting Flute Teacher to contribute to a vibrant Music Department with a long-established reputation for artistic excellence.
The school’s musical life is rich and varied, with an exceptionally busy programme that includes orchestral, choral and chamber music activity, alongside a concert band, a jazz band, regular pupil recitals, an annual recital competition, concerto performances with professional ensembles, and a wide range of choirs.
As a Visiting Flute Teacher, you will teach students of all levels and abilities in an array of styles, preparing students for graded examinations, GCSE and A Level performances, as well as participation in events such as workshops, masterclasses and school concerts. You will be responsible for supporting the technical and musical development of flautists from complete beginners through to post-Diploma level, offering expert guidance to help students prepare for orchestras, performances, competitions, examinations and potential Music College entry.
Teachers are contracted to provide thirty lessons per year for each pupil. However, there is an element of flexibility required in the role, and the number of lessons taught may change on a termly basis. For those living more than 20 miles away from Uppingham, a mileage allowance is available to cover travel for each full teaching day.
