Job Summary

The Trust is seeking an experienced Registered Mental Health Nurse to join a pioneering Virtual Ward, initially piloted in Eastbourne and set for expansion across East Sussex, Brighton, and Hove. The role focuses on intensive, responsive acute and crisis care for older adults with mental health needs and dementia, with the aim of enabling care in patients' own homes and reducing hospital admissions.

Main Duties
  • Provide comprehensive mental health assessment and manage a caseload of clients with complex needs.
  • Coordinate with families, carers, and multidisciplinary teams to deliver person-centred care.
  • Administer medication within NMC guidelines and the Trust’s Medicines Code.
  • Lead clinical interventions, maintain professional links, and apply specialist knowledge.
  • Receive clinical supervision and maintain first‑level nurse registration.
Responsibilities (Prescribing)
  • Act as a supplementary/independent prescriber where appropriate, adhering to Trust policies.
  • Keep up to date with contemporary prescribing practices and maintain registered status.
Person Specification
  • Registered Nurse with current registration in mental health/learning disabilities/adult services.
  • Degree or diploma supplemented by specialist qualification equivalent to masters level.
  • Post‑registration training and mentorship course completion; up‑to‑date SLIP training.
  • Experience managing complex mental health caseloads and supervising staff.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of interventions specific to older adults with mental health and dementia.
  • Willingness to undertake supplementary/independent prescribing module if not already trained.
