Job summary

BNY is hiring a Vice President, Full-Stack Engineer to lead Manchester-based software engineering efforts in a fast-paced, financial services context. You will drive end-to-end delivery of distributed systems, modern APIs, and secure-by-design architectures while guiding teams across full-stack scopes including Groovy, Java, and Angular.

You will mentor engineers, champion CI/CD, telemetry, and cloud adoption, and influence product strategy with strong communication and stakeholder engagement.

Salary: £100,000 - 100,000 per year

Requirements

• Proven leadership of software engineering teams building distributed systems and microservices in agile environments (Scrum/Kanban)
• Deep Java experience with Spring, including architectural patterns for scalable, observable, testable systems and strong API design
• Strong DevOps practices, including CI/CD (for example, GitLab), automated testing (JUnit/Spock), code reviews, telemetry/observability (Splunk, AppDynamics), containers (Docker), and cloud
• Hands-on AI development using modern tools and IDEs and experience integrating AI into product workflows
• Excellent communication and stakeholder influence, with the ability to simplify complexity, make evidence-based decisions, and drive continuous improvement
• Corporate Actions domain experience strongly preferred
• Groovy/Spock and JavaScript/TypeScript with Angular experience preferred for full-stack contexts
• Financial services background with risk and controls experience in regulated environments preferred

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop inclusive, high-performing engineering teams by setting clear objectives, coaching talent, and fostering succession planning
• Own end-to-end delivery for critical software, including requirements, architecture, implementation, testing, deployment, observability, and reliability
• Raise engineering excellence and resilience through best practices and automation across code, testing, microservices/APIs, performance, and infrastructure
• Build secure-by-design solutions using threat modeling, logging and monitoring, incident playbooks, and disaster recovery practices
• Partner with product, design, and operations to translate outcomes into measurable technical plans
• Guide architecture modernization, integrations, cloud and container adoption, and technical debt remediation
• Represent engineering in program reviews and governance forums
• Ensure compliance, risk management, and operational excellence aligned to our principles and strategic pillars
