Job summary

Gainsborough Referrals is seeking a motivated Veterinary Surgeon to join as a Surgical Intern for a 12-month structured program in Lincolnshire. The role targets vets with 2-3 years post-qualification experience and a rotating internship, offering close supervision and meaningful case involvement.

You will work with a European Specialist in Small Animal Surgery and gain exposure to orthopaedic, soft tissue, spinal/neurology and advanced imaging cases, under supportive supervision to build

Qualifications

• Qualified Veterinary Surgeon with MRCVS status or eligibility.
• Strong interest in orthopaedic and soft tissue surgery.
• Compassionate and professional patient care.
• Ability to work well in a close clinical team.
• Willingness to learn and develop clinical judgement.
• Experience in small animal practice would help.

Responsibilities

• Assist with surgical consultations, patient assessments and case work-up.
• Support the surgical team with orthopaedic and soft tissue procedures.
• Help with inpatient care, post-operative monitoring and recovery.
• Assist with diagnostic imaging, including radiography and CT.
• Prepare patients for surgery and support theatre workflow.
• Maintain accurate clinical records and communication notes.
• Take part in case discussions, teaching sessions and clinical reviews.
• Communicate with clients and referring vets under supervision.
• Work closely with nursing and clinical support teams to deliver high standards of care.
